The Politecnico of Milano Department of Aerospace Science and Technology (DAER), latest experimental campaign, within the IPROP project, focuses on optimizing EAD thrusters by testing nonuniform emitter arrangements. The study examines the impact of emitter configurations on thrust and thrust-to-power coefficients, the following key insights have been revealed:
- nonuniform emitter configurations outperform standard arrays, in particular, with short chord collectors, widely spaced apart.
- Staggered configurations show promising results, with an optimal configuration.
- Droplet collectors prove to be a competitive alternative to traditional airfoil collectors.
These findings of the research group composed of Marco Belan, Stefano Trovato, Raffaello Terenzi, Davide Usuelli could mark a step forward in enhancing thrust performance and efficiency in EAD thruster technology in IPROP project.
